Technology Lesson Demonstration Assignment

Technology Lesson Demonstration Assignment

Written Explanation A.

I believe the app was very beneficial in helping kindergarten classes to understand the different types of shapes. With the introductory lesson and manipulative that students are presented with. The app helps to aid in the understanding of the lesson of two-dimensional shapes. In the Wixie app students are given the opportunity to be presented with shapes in a fun and inviting way that is age appropriate for them to comprehend the naming of different shapes such as circle, square, triangle, and rectangle. The app also has a place where students can draw or record the shapes that they notice and recognize. I am not familiar with this app. This is my first time ever hearing of Wixie. I think it's a very creative way to help students become independent and imaginative with their learning.

Written Explanation B.

One way I believe this technology app can help enhance the lesson is by using the tools that are given to us as a secondary resource to enrich students’ understanding of the lesson we are providing. This app could be used as a differentiating tool as a rotating station in the classroom where students can maneuver to another area to get further explanation of the different ash tributes of shapes. Keeping in mind that differentiating is simply providing more resources to help aid and students understanding of the contacts you were teaching it can also be used as a pre assessment or a post assessment of students understanding versus a standard base paper test. With technology it helps teachers as well as students and not being frustrated with technology and the flexible use of it.

Shapes

CCSS.CONTENT.K.G.A.1

Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes and describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, besides, in front of, behind, and next to. Students learn about 2-dimensional shapes and create a class book identifying these shapes around their school.

Apps: Wixie®

Introduce different 2-dimensional shapes to your students. Show your students different examples of squares, circles, rectangles, and triangles and work with them to count the sides and identify them correctly. There are many quality shape videos, like the one below, you can find with a simple online search. Hold different objects around in the classroom and discuss what we see and what some of our discoveries are.

Teacher resources YouTube: The Shape Song by the Singing Walrus

Ask students to look around your classroom to find objects in your classroom that are a particular shape like a circle or square and to name the shapes that they see. After a discussion about the shapes that we see in the room. I will ask the students to go to their Wixie app and draw the shapes they see in the app. Then students can create the images they see in their math journal to create a shape book.
